Here we are. The eve of the second annual BAIT (yeah, I know the A in BAIT stands for annual, but gimme me a break), and all through the town, we are scurrying to make sure we have all the equipment, supplies, and stuff we'll need. I'm sure we've forgotten stuff and we'll have to improvise on Opening Night, but hey, that's what this is all about. Improvisation.
Well, improvisation and community. The indie improv scene in Boston is booming. With IA and IB training literally hundreds of comedy students annually, and more performers moving to town, the list of indie teams keeps growing. And some of them on a good night can rival the best resident casts in the area. The scene is that strong.
We're excited to have 24 of these teams compete in our little BAIT tournament (see note in second sentence). We have teams that have been playing together for years, and some who have been together a few short months. We range from duos to massive ensembles. We even have some musical improv. Last year we had puppets. All in, this year we have more than 160 performers signed up for our little shindig.
We'll post recaps and musings here as the tournament continues. We hope you'll come see a show. You'll like it.
