I can't believe that the preliminary rounds are over. It was a treat to see so many talented people doing what they love. Almost as many new faces as those that were familiar. This past Sunday's show was another belly buster. It's been days but I'm still thinking about moments like these:
This Sunday's Finals show will be a blast. Hopefully we'll see you there!
It happened again. Another fun and funny night at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. Week 2 saw a diverse bill featuring two musical acts, ensembles with as many as many as 6 performers as well as a duo, some people who might just be old enough to drink legally and others who showed that they were young at heart. But that stuff didn't matter. They all had folks in stitches.
Thanks to Agent Superball, Bearskin Rug, Elderberry Jam, M&N Musical Improv, Short Shorts, and this week's finalists The Quarry for treating everyone to gems like these:
"That sounds like asexual reproduction... And I'd know..."
"You! Gimme all your intelligence!"
Throwing Feces: The Musical
"Hello, I'm Brad and I'll be your special this evening."
"School is for babies."
"All I've ever felt is drugs from the doctor!"
Come on and hurry up, Sunday! I need another helping!
SO. MUCH. FUN.
Huge thank yous to Antelope, Anything But Pretty, Classic Sly, Hell Train, and our first finalists of the year Moon Bounce Command as well as those in the audience, our volunteers Lauren Turner and Dave Stern, and the Regent Theatre.
If last night's show was any indication, we're in for another hilarious five weeks. I mean, Poor Ringo, right? This morning all I wanted to do was put bagels on top of a giant bagel. I'm sitting here missing a very committed physics tutor and Teddy the enthusiastic yet clueless game show walk-on, wishing that I could stream an episode of The Downfall of Tommy Lee Jones.
Everybody killed it last night and the extremely tight voting showed that this wasn't just the hosts' opinions. We can't wait for Sunday to do it all over again but completely different!
One team slot open...July 23! Grab it now! The tournament starts in less than 2 weeks!
Any indie improv team can join! Grab a slot and a chance for everlasting glory. $30 registration fee gets you in the tournament and gets your entire team complimentary admission to all 5 shows.
Sundays in the summer are going to be fun.
Qualifying rounds are scheduled for Sundays at 7pm. July 23, July 30, August 6, and August 13.
Championship Show is Sunday August 20.
All shows at The Regent Theater in Arlington. The Qualifiers are downstairs, and the Finals will be in the Main Theater upstairs.
More details coming soon.
I can't believe that it's over. Last night was like a beautiful fever dream (it was hot in those suits).
From an insane and absurd scene that contained a conservative estimate of 25 pratfalls to a hilarious double interrogation for loitering and absolutely everything in between, the more than 200 people in attendance at last night's championship round were treated to yet another hysterical evening.
Congratulations to Spider House, the 2016 BAIT Champions. I am aware that I keep saying and typing that every team has been ridiculously funny, but I will continue to do so until it becomes a lie. You were all tremendous. Thanks for making this series of shows worth putting on.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Boston Annual Improv Tournament. The performers, the judges, the folks that pitched in and helped us run the shows, everyone who came to laugh, those that returned a second or third night to laugh some more, the Regent Theatre and their staff... Everyone. Even Mike.
See you next year!
